Jean-Claude van Rijckeghem (°1963) is a Belgian screenwriter, author and producer. He has a master’s degree in languages, founded A PRIVATE VIEW in 1994 and is still attached to the company as a writer. He wrote or co-wrote screenplays for more than 20 features and short subjects in Flanders and the Netherlands, including Cannes Critics’ Week screenplay award winner MOSCOW, BELGIUM (2008), EFA Discovery Award winner OXYGEN (2010), EFA best European comedy nominee VINCENT AND THE END OF THE WORLD (2016), Ghent Filmfest winner ZAGROS (2017), French-language RÉTRO THÉRAPY (2024), Golden Calf winner CRUSADE IN JEANS (2005)  and Ensor audience award winner SEA SPARKLE (2023). He also penned crowd-pleasing features such as BRASSERIE ROMANTIQUE, THE OVER THE HILL BAND, MARRY ME and A PERFECT MATCH. Other credits include children’s films SCIENCE FICTION and THE BALL. Jean-Claude has also authored two drama series for television with Pierre De Clercq: AMIGOS and A GOOD YEAR.

Jean-Claude is also a writer of comic books and an acclaimed novelist. He wrote five historical novels for young adults that were translated into many languages. He has won literary awards in Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria and Italy. Two of his novels were selected for the prestigious bi-annual IBBY-honour list which selects youth-oriented novels from around the globe. He is a member of the European Film Academy.
