Jean-Claude van Rijckeghem (°1963) is a Belgian writer and producer. He has a master’s degree in languages. He wrote or co-wrote screenplays for a dozen features in Flanders and the Netherlands including Cannes Critics’ Week screenplay award winner MOSCOW, BELGIUM (2008), EFA Discovery Award winner OXYGEN (2010), EFA best European comedy nominee VINCENT AND THE END OF THE WORLD (2016), Ghent Filmfest winner ZAGROS (2017) and Ensor audience award winner SEA SPARKLE (2023). He also penned crowd-pleasing features such as BRASSERIE ROMANTIQUE, MARRY ME and A PERFECT MATCH. Jean-Claude has also worked on television series. In 2014/15 he created and wrote the ten part television series AMIGOS with Pierre De Clercq. The series was broadcast in 2017 to great critical acclaim. He co-wrote the drama series A GOOD YEAR with Pierre De Clercq, directed by Kadir Ferati Balci.
Jean-Claude is also a creator and writer of comic book series and an acclaimed novelist. He wrote and co-wrote three historical novels for young adults that won literary awards and were widely translated. His novel GALGENMÄDCHEN (translated from the Dutch) won the 2016 Jugendbuchpreis for best YA novel in Austria. His novel IJZERKOP (IRONHEAD, 2019) won among others the Thea Beckman Prize and the Premio Andersen for the Italian translation of his book.
He is a member of ACE (Ateliers du Cinéma Européen) and a member of the European Film Academy.
