THE BEST OF DORIEN B., Anke Blondé’s feature debut, has been selected for the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR, Jan. 23-Feb. 3). The comic drama with Kim Snauwaert and Jelle De Beule in the lead roles will have its world premiere in Rotterdam and opens the Big Screen Competition as part of the Voices section.
THE BEST OF DORIEN B. is the story of a woman who rediscovers herself in the midst of all the craziness that surrounds her. Dorien has everything to be happy: a successful man, two adorable children and a veterinary practice full of small pets. But when she realizes her mother has a liaison and her husband turns out to be very close to a colleague, she starts to have doubts about everything. A phone call with bad news is the proverbial drop. Dorien feels lost and cannot seem to find comfort in anyone. Dorien re-evaluates her life. Is this it?
Lead players Kim Snauwaert and Jelle De Beule both make their debut on the big screen in THE BEST OF DORIEN B. Katelijne Verbeke, Wine Dierickx and Dirk van Dijck back them up with colourful supporting performances. The photography is David Williamson’s, Axel Skovdal Roelofs edited the picture and Rutger Reinders composed the music.
Anke Blondé wrote the script for her feature debut with Jean-Claude van Rijckeghem. The production is by Dries Phlypo and Jean-Claude van Rijckeghem for A Private View (ZAGROS, VINCENT, MOSCOW, BELGIUM), in co-production with the Dutch Viking Film. Kinepolis Film Distribution (KFD) will release the film in theaters in September 2019. Sales agent BE For Films sells the film internationally.
In addition to THE BEST OF DORIEN B., Ghent production company A Private View is also present in Rotterdam with co-productions NOCTURNE and DIRTY GOD. NOCTURNE is Dutch director Viktor van der Valk’s first film. He competes in the Bright Future competition, while DIRTY GOD by Sacha Polak is selected as IFFR’s opening film.
