A Gentle Gesture wins the short film competition at the Ostend Film Festival.

The short film Een Mild Gebaar (A Gentle Gesture) directed by Ann-Julie Verveake has won the shortfilm competition at the Ostend Film Festival (2024).

The film tells the story of three women who retreat to a flat by the sea. Together, during
one day and one night, they endure the suffering one of them is forced to go through.

“With this short film, I want to contribute to the cultural conversation around abortion. It is a subject that is still polarising, while more empathy is just needed. In the film, there is no judgment. No explanation is sought, no reason… By focusing on intimacy and connection, I want to remove the feelings of fear, shame, ugliness, dirtiness away.”
Ann-Julie Verveake

A Gentle Gesture is an A Private View production and was created with the support of the Belgian Tax Shelter.
